‘Week 3’ on Medium, and I’m still standing! — well sitting, while typing…
Latest news from the trail…
So my ‘Epiphany of the Week’ is that I don’t have to prove how smart I am! Yay!!!
Well, how about that! I’m only being slightly facetious here. It’s always been my understanding that when one writes, one writes to impress — Emails, projects, personal letters.
All an opportunity to flex that dictionary of mine!
But the more I read on Medium, the less I’m enthralled when reading overly gymnastic uses of the English language. I suppose there’s a fine line between being ‘descriptive and creative’ versus ‘off-putting.’
I shall be using this insight from here on in. But bear with me if I veer off to the grandiose once in a while. After all, this is a life habit I’m attempting to curb.
I blame my early reading years of the classics! And I managed to get through an awful lot of them before high school. Jane Austen (yes, I was always a sensitive soul), Bronté, Dickens, and many other Brits.
Brought up in the UK, one never ever talked of classics by American authors. I don’t think there was an aversion towards, they just didn’t come up very often. And I’m making up for that later in life.
