We Are Less Interesting Than We Thought
And that’s a good thing
Our role in life isn’t what we think it is…
One of our primary concerns in life has been what others think of us. We assume we’re being observed and then judged by our actions, and that somehow there will be consequences.
I hate to break it to you, but most of us go relatively unnoticed. Everyone else is so concerned with their own busy lives, they have little time to be that interested in us.
While we think that woman in aisle 7 has been giving disapproving looks at my basket, she’s probably realizing she forgot her potatoes in Aisle 5.
Or that she still has to figure out who’s going to look after Child 4 on Sunday evening when she and her husband go to the movies!
Everyone has so much going on in their lives. And in the past decade or so, although technology was supposed to free us up, it’s made most of us more closely chained to our work and available 24/7.
We live lives of over-extending ourselves more than at any other time in history. We just don’t have the bandwidth to be that interested in others.
So… What a relief. One thing less to be concerned over, yes?
