Thanks for the entire piece. I simply highlighted this sentence as both an example of how far this man have gone, and how he had an upbringing that sounds almost 19th Century in its origins.

No running water? One can imagine there were a litany of other things he was also deprived of during childhood.

So to go from that background to even moderate success would have been a high achievement! Needless to say he over performed x20!
